Student Council Journey: Organizing Prom Nocturne '24

As Student Council President, my journey organizing Prom Nocturne '24 was filled with challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons in leadership. What started as an ambitious vision transformed into one of our school's most memorable events, while making a meaningful impact on our community.

The Fundraising Challenge

With a target of 60 million VND ($2,400), our small team of five embarked on an intensive fundraising campaign. We drafted countless cold emails and personally reached out to over 100 potential sponsors. Each rejection only fueled our determination to succeed.

Overcoming Obstacles

The road to Prom night wasn't smooth. We faced two unexpected venue changes that threatened to derail our plans. But rather than give up, we adapted. Our team scoured Ho Chi Minh City's markets for decorations, negotiated with vendors for lighting and audio equipment, and coordinated with catering services.

Building a Community

Realizing we needed more hands on deck, I reached out to our student body for volunteers. The response was heartwarming - students stepped up to help with everything from decoration to ticket sales. This collaborative spirit showed me the true power of our school community.

The Big Night

After months of preparation, Prom Nocturne '24 came to life. The venue transformed into an enchanting space where memories were made. But the most rewarding moment came after the event - we had generated a profit of $240, which we donated to the Green Bamboo Social Protection Center to support underprivileged students' scholarships.

Beyond Just a Dance

Throughout this journey, I implemented other initiatives to enhance student life. We created an anonymous feedback system through a suggestion box, allowing students to voice their concerns freely. Our monthly news reports reached over 3,000 views on Facebook, and we organized spirited theme days like Winter Wonderland Wednesday and Sweater Day to boost school spirit.

We even facilitated cultural exchange programs, notably hosting students from Bourne End Academy (UK) for an immersive Vietnamese cultural experience, complete with traditional cuisine workshops and a 'Milo Dầm' Fair'.

Looking back, organizing Prom Nocturne '24 wasn't just about creating a magical evening - it was about learning to lead through challenges, building community, and making a positive impact. The success of this event proved that with persistence, teamwork, and a clear purpose, we can overcome any obstacle while giving back to our community.
